Apollo 7
Apollo 7 was not only the first manned mission of the Apollo program, but also the first time American audiences could see the astronauts during the mission. The "Wally, Walt and Donn Show" was aired each USA morning as the spacecraft passed over the COrpus Christi, Texas and Cape Kennedy, Florida tracking stations.
Each of the seven live broadcasts began with "Hello from the Lovely Apollo room, high atop everything." Atronauts Wally Schirra, Donn Eisele, and Walt Cunningham were so popular with audiences, they received a special Emmy award, television's highest honor for excellence.
